Angel Numbers - 111
When it comes to the spiritual world, but especially that of Angel Numbers, I get asked all the time - “what does it mean?” and “how do you know?”
These are normal inquiries - of course we want to legitimatize and ground our experiences into a collective understanding or body of knowledge. Like anything, knowledge as we use it most often comes from noticing, theorizing, experimenting, and refining. Often, we must to a certain degree believe in something or be open to believing in it so we may actually experience it and I feel that Angel Numbers are a perfect example of this.
As someone who is deeply spiritual and often the witchy friend of the group, I can’t tell you the number of times that people have told me “I see so many more angel numbers when you are around!”. I don’t believe this is coincidence - perhaps partly the phenomenon of like calling in like, but I also believe that in trying to relate to those around us and understand them we subconsciously try to see or experience the world in a way we know they do.
So like all “coincidences” I must wonder, what is this reason? Why me? Why Angel Numbers?
Everything Is What We Make It To Be
Everything we know is made up. It doesn’t make it less true or impactful or accurate - but it’s made up. Someone made up math. Someone made up astrology. Someone made up machines. And as such, someone made up Angel Numbers.
With certain inventions, there are inherently measurable things that help us quantify it and utilize it. Angel Numbers can be like that, but I believe that they also ask us to take an authoritative stance over our own experience as well as to be present within our own experiences.
You don’t have to believe in Angel Numbers in order to see them. You don’t have to see Angel Numbers in order to believe them. Maybe you think about them a lot, or perhaps you notice them but don’t pay any attention to you. This post isn’t here to prove their legitimacy to you. It’s more to ask, is there value in a personal belief in them - and if yes, then how to we utilize that value to understand their messages.
The number one question I get asked when it comes to Angel Numbers is “What does it mean?” to which I always want to say “Nothing and everything.” What I mean by this is that if everything is made up, then the meaning behind these occurrence of digits is also made up. There is no one true way to interpret any of them; but there are patterns and patterns are not only the basis of evolution (whether in the maintaining of them or breaking of them) but they are also the best ways in which we can gather understanding and insight into things.
The meanings I offer will always come from a place of personal experience and study - which could be very different from another persons. I think this is wonderful! I love that we have autonomy around belief. I love that we can infer our own meaning into things in ways that support us.
Nothing Is What We Want It To Be
I think the crux of “making things up” is that often we can be bypassing important lessons or moments. The kind of making things up I am referring to isn’t mud pies in the garden, but more a carefully curated recipe that is built from experiments, creativity, failing, and trying again and again and again.
When it come to Angel Numbers, or really any “spiritual” belief, I feel that it’s important to recognize that sometimes we are looking towards things to absolve us of our pain, uncertainty, and the inner calamity with knowing that we don’t know - or perhaps being truly faced with what we do know.
We can look at the Angel Number 111 and infer with our own knowledge that “1” is often the beginning or starting point. Is seeing this Angel Number going to possess your body with the spirit of beginning and force you to take the leap you want? No. Is that thing you know really isn’t good for you but you seem to keep feeling drawn towards suddenly a beacon of alignment and being a totally different person now that you saw 111 on a license plate? Probably not…
What I really mean when I say nothing is what we want it to be is that our subconscious beliefs and mind really have a way of wanting to play out the reality that it finds pleasure in (if you want to know more about that read Existential Kink). When we are inferring meaning, especially about guidance, we have to also be responsible for the reality in which we are living in - specifically the over-arching reality of our individual lives that is about becoming ourselves.
Do we become ourselves by getting everything we consciously want? Absolutely not :) we become ourselves through discourse, misalignment, mistakes, and falling on our ass. That isn’t to say we can’t or don’t become ourselves through success. I just see becoming more as carving ourselves out of a slab of clay. It is messy, unclear, challenging, and grounded in doing real tangible things. We often are put in a position of asking how we want to create something more than what we want to create. If we are fast and taking short cuts, when put into the kiln most often what we have created - while at first glance may be beautiful - will crack.
Sometimes we need to make or face something ugly to learn the lessons that allow the beauty to be true and sustainable.
I call this process sacred sacrifice. The pre-fix “sac” means to hold. All things hold energy, so can we sacrifice the energy from what doesn’t serve us (urgency, victimhood, etc) and move it into something sacred (patience, autonomy, trust)? Can we accept that nothing is what we initially want it to be, so we must do the work to turn it into something meaningful?
This goes for Angel Numbers, too. I believe they can be powerful reminders of our patterns, of our work, of our relationship with Other.
Uhmmmm Okay, But What Does Angel Number 111 Mean To You?
Okay yeah not to go off on a tangent but I just think the spiritual world is inundated with a bunch of notions that really gives us this false pretence that we can believe in things that take away the work. We can believe in things that support the work, that make the work meaningful, that allow us to feel safe. Things that bring the sacred nature of it to the surface, that excite us. It feels important to create a basis of understanding for how I experience Angel Numbers at a belief level before diving into what they mean for me.
The Angel Numbers is their basic sequencing (111, 222, 333, etc.) are a pattern to me. There is a reason for their order, they all work together and lead us into cycles of growth and understanding. There is no one way to look at them because they are all inherently linked. Maybe one day you see 111 and 777 several times. This, to me, has a different overarching message than seeing 111 and 555 together. As it is, lets look at the core of this energy as I understand it.
111 - INTUITION
A primal force. A sensory experience we develop before any other. An initiation.
When I see 111 I must ask myself one or more of these things:
is there an intuition or hunch about something I have, even if it doesn’t currently make sense?
is there something I should start, even if I don’t feel “ready”?
is there something I currently lack clarity around?
am I feeling lost, depressed, or in the dark?
is a truth available to me?
am I doing or experiencing something new?
am I doing or experiencing something with a fresh perspective?
is there something available for me to do now for my future?
can I see the power in small actions?
is there something I have been waiting for a sign/signal for?
was I thinking about something important that could potentially be started?
is something I am experiencing now linked to a bigger picture?
is there something happening that I should take note of for the future?
111 is the primal, the thread, that which draws us closer, the truth, the pure, the signal, the omen, the seed.
I see it in these simple yet abstract terms because it makes deeper sense to me and my own patterns. If you google “angel number 111” this is what appears:
Angel number 111 signifies a message of new beginnings, spiritual awakening, and the power of manifesting your thoughts into reality. It is seen as a "green light" or energetic portal for transformation, encouraging you to trust your intuition, nurture your inner strengths, and focus your intentions as you step into new opportunities for personal growth.
If you have enjoyed or learned something from these contemplations, please stay tuned. I will be posting about angel numbers 111-999 in the coming weeks with different reflections of their purpose, how to use them, and developing a functional relationship with them.
I would love to read your reflections on what Angel Number 111 means for you or your relationship with Angel Numbers in the comments.
